I want to tell you a story. I just really loved this on my recent podcast episode.

It all started with a chef, a love story, and a very itchy poodle named Lily Lou 💛

Picture this: a chef walks into a tiny downtown café to interview for a job and meets the owner with an Ayurvedic background who’s obsessed with clean, real ingredients. That’s Scot and Lisa.

He got the executive chef role at her restaurant (The Bright Side), and in between brewing kombucha and sifting through P&Ls, they fell in love and together built a kitchen where every ingredient had a purpose.

Then came 2020 and with it, a new chapter. They adopted a sensitive soul—a standard poodle named Lily Lou—who came home with itchy skin 🐩

The meds Lily Lous was offered didn’t feel right, so Scot googled natural supplements and did what chefs do best: he read the labels.

And that’s when he saw it—pet supplements filled with “inactive ingredients. Glycerin to make chews soft, rice flours and binders to hold shape, stabilizers with zero nutritional job.

To a chef, there’s no such thing as an “inactive” ingredient. So he and Lisa stripped it all back to 100% active, functional powders—real food, clean sourcing, nothing extra.

The result? Lily Lou began to thrive. And that kitchen epiphany sparked something bigger: their pet wellness brand, Woof Creek 🐶

Now, they’re reimagining what pet supplements can be…

✨ Removing chew fillers like glycerin, oats, and starches.

✨ Choosing glass over plastic to prevent leaching and protect delicate nutrients.

✨ Offering an alternative to fish-based omegas in the form of tank-grown algal oil (clean water, no mercury, same DHA and EPA benefits.)

✨ Offering single-ingredient options for sensitive pets.

✨ And prioritizing species-appropriate, clinically backed ingredients over vague “meat meals.”

So now I’m wondering… if you turned your pet supplement bottles around, would they earn a chef’s kiss or a chef’s eyebrow raise? 😄

Here’s why this matters 👇

I want every pet parent to know they deserve more than just good enough 💖

I want you to know you can ask for more from your pet supplement brands, your pet food brands, and the companies you welcome into your home.

Woof Creek is part of a growing movement in pet wellness, showing us that clean, functional, and sustainable can all weave beautifully together.

They remind us that every ingredient, every choice, and every package should have a purpose for our pets and for the planet 🌎

Let’s take their algal omega-3 oil as an example 💁‍♀️

Instead of fish oil (which often carries mercury and heavy metals), you can now buy algal oil—the original source of omega-3s that fish get it from in the first place.

And the Algal Oil Woof Creek stocks are grown in clean, monitored water tanks, not pulled from our already-stressed oceans.

And that means:
✨ More control over purity and safety
✨ Higher DHA and EPA levels than many fish oils
✨ Zero impact on marine ecosystems

As a vet, I deeply appreciate this shift.

I’ve always had concerns about mercury buildup from long-term fish oil use in pets—especially in those with sensitive detox systems.

So if you’ve ever wondered if you could really ask for exactly what you’re looking for for your pet, or if it would be too much, the answer is yes, you can ask because there are brands who are willing to innovate 💁‍♀️
