Walking through Bristol Farms on my lunch break and looking for my youngests favorite breakfast cereal I had to wonderā€¦

Did humans get this wrong?Ā

Not cereal. Cereal is deliciousĀ šŸ˜‹

I mean standardizationā€¦

Like what if this one idea was killing innovation and teaching vets to look at every pet as the sameĀ (which any pet parent can tell you they’re not)Ā šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø

It’s an idea I see around me all day long.Ā

School children are grouped into grades by age and all being taught the same things in the same wayĀ (My kids certainly don’t learn in the same ways).Ā

Supermarkets with boxes of cereals are all marketed as ‘perfect and balanced breakfasts for everyone’Ā (Everyone, really?)Ā

I see this idea in the conventional veterinary care model where vets are given protocols to give vaccines and deworming pills to every pet at exactly the same intervalsĀ (All with the best intentions, thatā€™s how we are trained, but I think weā€™re making a mistake).Ā

Scanning the shelves, I spotted red and pink boxes. Got it! StrawberryĀ cereal. Lila is going to be so happy! šŸ˜

I walked back to the practice to see my vaccine titer client.Ā

I was going to check whether this handsome, great Pyrenees boy, Ralph, needed a boosterĀ of his vaccines or not.Ā

A titer test will tell me if he still has antibodies towards a specific disease and is still protected.Ā

The danger is if I don’t do the test and vaccinate anyway, this could trigger an immune issue.Ā

Immune system issues have been linked to some of the chronic diseases we see in our dogs and cats.Ā

I don’t want that for Ralph or any petā€¦ šŸ‘Ž

Since starting to offer vaccine titer tests I’ve discovered that so many pets are in fact still protected from their previous vaccine!Ā

And when it comes to older patients or patients with chronic illnesses, we need to focus on the risk and benefit analysis that is individualized for each pet.Ā

If you want to test if your pet still has all the antibodies they need and see if you can postpone your next vaccination just send us aĀ message.

Weā€™d be delighted to help you and your pet! šŸ’œ
