Flashback –
I lay in the back of my minivan during my lunchbreak, taking deep breaths.
It wasn’t always going to be this way.
“One day, I’d start my own practice”, I told myself. “I’d do things differently”.
The timer on my phone went off, I opened my eyes. I had to go back inside.
Back to seeing a pet every 20 minutes and squeezing in walk-ins and emergencies in between those already tight appointments 🫠
Back to having little time to connect the way I wanted to with the pet parents.
No time to ask questions or to really get to know them and their pets 🤦♀️ Back to handing out nutrition advice in 5 minutes instead of doing a deep dive. Rushing from one thing to the next.
I craved working in partnership with the pet parents who came to see me.

5 years later, at the client appreciation party at MY VERY OWN PRACTICE, I had a pinch-me moment when Dalyn and Oliver walked through the door.
Oliver’s mom Dalyn is one of my longest-standing pet parents, and her pup Oliver is a handsome little Shitzu. ⬇️⬇️
I’ve seen them both nearly every week for the past 4 years, and she truly is my partner when it comes to Oliver’s healthcare 🤝
I first saw them as a mobile practitioner – it was during Covid and we used to meet at a local park 🌳🌳, and they came when I first opened Integrative Pet Wellness Center. They were there through all the stages of developing my practice. And I have grown to love them so much, Oliver always bring a smile to my face 🩷. We worked hand-in-hand with mom and all of Oliver’s specialist doctor appointments. We are his “family” doctor.
Together, we’ve supported him through mobility issues with his legs and spine.
Skin issues that were the result of allergies.
He had high liver values that we’ve closely tracked over the years.
Oliver also had some hormonal imbalances and heart issues.
Now, Oliver is a senior gentleman, and we’re all about doing weekly preventative procedures for him 🐶
We love having them as a part of our Unicorn family! I truly feel that it is a partnership and I can care for Oliver the way I would if he was my own. I have been able to talk with mom in a way that is not just “the best thing to say as a doctor” but more “what is the best thing for Oliver” – taking in all the physical and emotional aspects of health care. It isn’t just about doing tests and treatments, we want him to be as comfortable as possible! Together we have made decisions that are non-conventional, but they are just right for Dalyn and Oliver.
We’ve had a few scary episode – like when his anal gland got infected and ruptured. Or a small seizure-like event. Episodes of vomiting or diarrhea.
When Oliver needs us, we get him in as quickly as possible. I have built a practice where I can see our patients on an urgent basis without sacrificing the quality of care. This is what I have always wanted. And if the pet needs to see a specialist, we can help with the referral and select the best specialist for them!
I want every pet to feel like an VIP👸
In fact I’ve lately been thinking about an offer for devoted pet parents. As I have gotten busier, how I can sustain this type of care is near and dear to my heart. (Keep an eye on your inbox in the coming months because I’m creating something extraordinary for clients just like YOU who want that extra special care and attention 👀)
**Special thanks for Dalyn and Oliver for letting me share our story 🩷**
💖 All my love,
Dr. Lily
