This Valentine’s Day, I want to celebrate the power of love—the kind of love you, my incredible Unicorn Pet Parents, have for your beloved fur babies 💖🐾
I was recently reminded just how powerful this love was by Oliver, a very special, long-standing patient of mine.
Oliver and his mom, Dalyn, have been inseparable for 17 years—mom takes Oliver to work with her as often as she can, and so in 17 years they’ve rarely been apart.
Oliver is Dalyn’s soul dog in all the ways 😍🐶✨
And I’ve been on this journey with them for 5 years, and I’ve seen them every week for acupuncture the past 5 years.
We first started with working on his back pain and leg issues, then started working on his allergy and skin issues, then addressing his chronic inflammatory conditions.
And for a senior pup, Oliver was doing really well!
So you can imagine how heartbreaking it was when, a couple of weeks ago, he was suddenly hospitalized with kidney failure 😭
He had IV fluid therapy for three days in a row, but when we checked his kidney values again, they were even worse. My heart sank.
I had a tough conversation with mom about Oliver’s quality of life. Because at that time, he also has not eaten on his own for many weeks.
She told me she was prepared to let him go if it was truly his time… but deep in her heart, she knew it wasn’t.
(I really wish every pet parent knew they didn’t need permission to trust their gut this deeply. You are the expert when it comes to your pet).
So mom kept syringe feeding him, caring for him, and doting on him day and night.
And….she literally loved this little dog back to life 🥹💗
Oliver is eating on his own again, he’s super responsive, and he’s back, I’m 100% convinced, it’s because of Dalyn’s love for him.
So, this Valentine’s Day, I want to honor you.
The Unicorn Pet Parents who pour their hearts into their fur babies every single day.
Because these animals aren’t just pets.
They’re your children, your best friends, your soul mates.
Here’s to one of the most profound loves that exist—the human-animal bond 💕
