“A what transplant?!”

“You mean like poop?”

“Ew, that’s gross!”

Those are all things pet parents have said to me when I first suggested a fecal transplant for their pet 😂

“Where do you get the “material”?” is another question I get asked pretty often.

I actually get it from a remarkable vet in Boston, Dr. Margo Roman who has bred 6 generations of standard poodles without exposing them to vaccines, or antibiotics.

Her dogs also eat a high quality mostly vegan diet. Her poodles have thriving microbiomes 🤌

Fecal transplants, transferring a small amount of fecal matter (aka 💩 from a healthy donor with thriving microbiome ) to a pet having severe or chronic health issues, has been an absolute game changer for their healing.

It can also be called a Microbiome Restorative Therapy.

It’s made the biggest difference in so many cases that would have been considered “incurable” by conventional veterinary standards.

Take Penny for example.

When Penny came to see me she was being hospitalized every two to three months for pancreatitis.

She’d have to stay in the hospital with an IV for 2 to 3 days.

Seeing your fur baby so sick is heartbreaking 💔🥺

It was also a rather expensive exercise with every hospital stay costing her parents thousands of dollars.

In between hospital stays, the vet treating Penny was able to manage her condition with drugs, and she was put on a special prescription kibble (which Penny hated).

But a couple of months later, she would have another flare-up and end up back in hospital.

I put Penny on a tailored treatment plan involving prebiotics, whole food fiber, and microbiome gut support supplements, and we did weekly fecal transplants.

The results were mind blowing 🤯

Penny hasn’t had a pancreatitis episode in over two years.

And she’s able to eat a fresh food diet with no problem at all. In fact, she gets her meals switched up often and she LOVES it.

The gut health support has been so effective that Penny now only comes in for  routine wellness check up and testing with occasional treatments to keep her microbiome balanced.
